This show is Netflix's take on the infamous Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, and the Medellín drug cartel. It follows Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña, and Pablo Escobar and his cousin Gustavo Gaviria, on opposite sides of a war that threatens to tear Columbia apart.
The show starts out with the early days of the Medellín drug cartel, moving on to the violent battle between the governments of Colombia, Mexico, and the U.S. all teaming up to bring down the power that is Escobar and the cartels of Colombia. Season 1 focuses on the uprising of cocaine as a substance, and the rise of Escobar into billionaire status. It also introduces the power of the President of Colombia, President Cesar Gaviria Trujillo, who, on many different occasions, aids with the capture of many of Escobar's lieutenants. Season 2 focuses more on the hunt for Escobar, and the fall of the Medellín drug cartel. It also brings in the CIA, and more involvement from the U.S., including unlimited resources, since the cocaine was becoming more and more prevalent in large U.S. cities, including Miami, New York, Chicago, and many other large cities.
